Patient Success Stories:
Access TeleCare’s teleNeurology Impact
See how Dr. Tsui and Access TeleCare delivered timely, compassionate specialty care through telemedicine — making a real difference for a patient with stroke symptoms.
The Case
A previously healthy, active, and independent man experienced the sudden onset of language deficits and right-sided weakness while driving to work. He lost control of his vehicle at low speed and arrived in the emergency department unable to walk or speak.
The Care Plan
By consulting with an Access TeleCare neurologist via telemedicine, the on-site emergency department team diagnosed suspected stroke and administered IV thrombolytics (clot-busting medication) within 20 minutes of the patient’s hospital arrival, and under an hour after the onset of his symptoms, well within the window where the therapy is most effective.
Recognizing additional treatment potential, the team of onsite and telemedicine clinicians also determined he was a candidate for endovascular thrombectomy to remove the clot directly, restoring blood flow and minimizing further brain injury.
The Result
At follow-up, the patient had regained strength in his arms and legs and was able to walk again. While he continued to experience mild language deficits, he was speaking, engaging in conversation, and actively participating in rehabilitation with physical therapy support.
“Every minute without treatment during a stroke can cost nearly 1.9 million brain cells. That’s why on-demand neurology and coordination with on-site teams make a difference.”
