Gallagher was named as the School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award recipient for 2022-2023.

The award recognizes Dr. Gallagher’s contributions to the field of medicine and the positive impact his work with Access TeleCare has on the larger society. The award also acknowledges the distinction that Gallagher’s accomplishments bring to Texas Tech University and how those accomplishments inspire his colleagues and future alumni. Gallagher received the award October 13.

“This award affirms the incredible work our team at Access TeleCare is doing to increase access to specialty care for communities across the U.S.,” said Gallagher. “I am honored to be named alongside other distinguished alumni, and I look forward to my team’s continued work with our partners to advance access to timely specialty health care.”

Access TeleCare currently operates more than 2,200 telemedicine programs across all 50 states, employing more than 650 physicians and advanced practice providers who see thousands of patients every year, delivering acute specialty care when and where it is needed.

Gallagher earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2005, where he experienced the revolutionary impact telemedicine can have for eliminating barriers to specialty health care. These early experiences with telemedicine led him to co-found Access TeleCare (formerly Access Physicians) in 2013, forging a path to becoming the nation’s largest acute care specialty telemedicine provider in hospitals and clinics.
