Findings published in Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

A key feature of a physician role with Access TeleCare is the freedom to pursue research and publication opportunities. Last month, several Access TeleCare consultation-liaison psychiatrists published their case study findings in the peer-reviewed publication, Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.

First-Ever Use of IM Ketamine and TelePsychiatry for Complex Psychiatric Case

Drs. Yingying Rezmovits, Monika Chaudhry, and Arun Gopal’s case study detailed the combined use of telePsychiatry and intramuscular (IM) ketamine to successfully treat a suicidal patient with advanced Huntington’s disease.

This case study marks the first time IM ketamine and telePsychiatry were used together to decrease depression and suicidal thinking on a patient that was difficult to place in a psychiatric hospital due to severity of their progressing medical condition.

How Access TeleCare’s TelePsychiatry Program Made a Difference

Access TeleCare’s fully integrated consultation-liaison telePsychiatry program provided continuity for the patient and their on-site care team, enabling the hospital to navigate a medically complex and severe psychiatric case that would not have been possible to treat locally without the innovative intervention of our telemedicine specialists.

“Access TeleCare supports us and encourages innovative research in service of better patient care,” said Dr. Gopal. “The result was a positive outcome for this patient and a novel treatment approach that we’re already sharing with the broader medical community.
