Exploring Telemedicine Strategies for Specialty Care
Access TeleCare CEO Chris Gallagher, M.D., and UnityPoint Health System interim chief medical officer Cate Ranheim, M.D., explored firsthand experiences with telemedicine solutions and discussed successful strategies for deploying them in a recent webinar hosted by Becker’s Hospital Review. Discussion focused on telemedicine’s ability to address the challenges of access to specialty care, timeliness of care, and workforce shortages and burnout.
Telemedicine Benefits for Behavioral Health and Neurology
The webinar also featured specific discussions around the advantages Access TeleCare’s telemedicine programs brought for behavioral health and neurology care for UnityPoint Health System hospitals.
With timely access to behavioral health specialists through Access TeleCare, UnityPoint Health reduced ED boarding and wait times, while also improving ED throughput and the patient care experience. For neurology, one of the system’s hospitals saw a more than 300 percent increase in neurology revenue, as the hospital transfers fewer patients because it can provide a higher level of neurology care with Access TeleCare’s neurologists.
